Berde, Carol Get contact information

I bring to nonprofits skills and experience in facilitating group decision-making; strategic thinking to identify solutions or goals and a plan to achieve them; analyzing and synthesizing information into decision-making frameworks; exceptionally clear and succinct writing; and balancing the big picture and the details. My approach is tailored to every organization\'s unique situation. Flexibility is paramount, as the path to a desired result often changes as the process evolves. When I begin work with an organization, essential first steps are to understand the organization (nature of the work, operating style, current situation, desired future situation, if known, etc. ), work with the leadership to define the challenges to be addressed, and gather information and viewpoints from internal and external stakeholders. Developing options, goals, and strategies is iterative; often I can be most useful by proposing direction and language for reaction by the leadesrhip, and then revising it after discussion. The final product, whether a strategic plan or assessment or a program design, must be realistic and flow easily into action and operational plans. In particular, a strategic plan should be both a motivational tool and a roadmap guiding resource allocation and leading to sustainability. My goal is to apply the insights I have gained from more than 30 years experience with foundations and nonprofits to the particular situation and aspirations of the organization with which I am working.

My career has be divided between the nonprofit sector and private industry. It has included experience at local, regional and national levels of noprofit organizations. My industry experience has run the gamut from local start ups to established small businesses to a $200 million international company. I have worked and consulted both nationally and internationally. I approach my consulting opportunities with three basic beliefs: 1 - One size does not fit all. Each client has different needs and must receive service customized to those needs. 2 - There is little worse than doing the wrong thing better and better. To be effective I must know the past and the present in order to effectively impact the future. 3 - To be an effective consultant I must be a partner with the client, not just an advisor. In a given year I work with 5-8 different organziations, many of which are repeat clients.

Corley, Kathleen Get contact information

My approach to working with anyone is to first figure out where they are, then step there and work with them to figure out where they want to go. My job is to work with the organization, it's staff and board to build the path that will take them to that goal or point on the horizon. Once we've established that, my work will be successful it I keep my eye on the horizon and constantly work to move the organization ahead - small steps some days but constantly and consistently moving ahead toward the future they have defined keeping the mission and the community it serves always in the forefront of our work. The challenge is that this work can only be successful if there is change - in behavior, in staff, in board, in organizational conduct, and/or in thinking. That is scary for many people, and it often means loss of something - so a significant part of being able to move ahead is building trust - in me and confidence in themselves. Once that's done - risk is possible. And without risk there can be no change and without change.

Fey, David Get contact information

The Creative Margin is the management and communications consulting practice of David Fey, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Creative Margin is the boundary between reality and vision: the place where change is possible. Building on 20 years of leadership experience in the corporate, nonprofit and government sectors, I work with organizations to find this Creative Margin and take immediate steps to move closer to their vision. The process usually begins with a frank assessment of current circumstances, followed by immediate action planning and the development of supportive communication materials and strategies. Each step in this process builds the capacity of the organization and its leaders. An architect with broad experience in community development, architecture, urban planning, project management and corporate communications, I was appointed Deputy Mayor of Minneapolis in 2002 by newly elected Mayor R.T. Rybak. I had primary responsibility for the Mayor\'s housing and development agenda, and oversaw the merger of the city\'s planning, development and job-training departments into an integrated Department of Community Planning and Economic Development, for which I then served as Senior Policy Manager. Prior to these appointed positions, I served as Executive Director of Seward Redesign – a nonprofit community development corporation – and on its board of directors. I have also served as Vice Chair of the Minneapolis Affordable Housing Task Force and Co-Chair of the Minneapolis Consortium of Community Developers. I was a founding member of the Governing Board of Payne-Lake Community Partners and currently sit on the Local Advisory Committee of the Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corporation. Recently I\'ve had the pleasure of providing consulting assistance to four great nonprofit organizations: Neighborhood Development Center, Nexus Community Partners, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and Northway Community Trust. I am also part of a consulting team assisting Ramsey County with an organizational analysis of its service-delivery systems for at-risk youth, and providing consulting assistance to the City of Minneapolis Department of Community Planning and Economic Development.

Flo Golod & Associates Get contact information

I believe in walking down the path with an organization rather than charging in and giving advice. I\'m pretty hands-on, because I don\'t think I can help build capacity without actually practicing my ideas about strategies and applications alongside the people in the organizations I work for. I usually get called about fundraising but often engage with the organization in planning, board issues, messaging and infrastructure challenges. My fundraising philosophy is: \"Stay true to your mission. You are forging communications between your nonprofit organization and people and institutions who may not understand what you are trying to do or why it is necessary. You must understand the interests of foundations, corporations and philanthropists in order to make an effective connection between your organization and them. Effective fundraising is like effective organizing. It requires building and sustaining relationships, strategy and well-timed and well-crafted communication.\" Typically, I like to work with at least one other consultant on a project and prefer longer-term relationships to short-term contracts.

BlueCross BlueShield of Minnesota Foundation: Organization Development Assessment: This assessment was created to familiarize organizational leaders with the many aspects of operating an accountable and high functioning nonprofit agency, and to serve as a tool to benchmark agency status and determine high priority areas for further development. This tool lists 100 standards that are organized under eight different organization development areas such as governance, budgeting and revenue development, financial management and reporting and more. The tool is especially helpful when board members and leadership staff come to consensus on the status of each standard.
